California's Minimum Wage Set to Increase in 2024
Effective January 1, 2024, the minimum wage in California will increase to $16.00 per hour, affecting all employers.
In addition to the statewide increase, some cities and counties in California have implemented higher minimum wages, including Oakland ($16.00 per hour) and San Francisco ($17.00 per hour).
Fast Food Restaurant Employers:
Effective April 2024, fast food restaurant employers will be required to pay a minimum wage of $20.00 per hour. This is the result of the passing of Assembly Bill 257, which specifically targets the fast-food industry.
Upcoming Minimum Wage Measures:
In November 2024, California voters will have the opportunity to vote on several minimum wage measures that could further increase the minimum wage in the state. These measures include:
- Proposition 1: Would increase the minimum wage to $18.00 per hour in 2025 and to $20.00 per hour in 2026.
- Proposition 2: Would create a minimum wage of $22.00 per hour for all workers, regardless of employer size or industry.
