ATR-72 Aircraft Operated by Voepass Crashes Near Vinhedo
All Onboard Perish in Tragic Accident
VINHEDO, Brazil, August 18, 2023 (AP) - A passenger plane carrying 61 people crashed into a gated residential community in Brazil's Sao Paulo state on Friday, killing all aboard.
The aircraft, operated by Voepass Linhas Aéreas, was an ATR-72, the company confirmed. It was operating flight 2283 from Sao Paulo to Paranaiba when it crashed in the city of Vinhedo, about 50 miles northwest of the state capital.
Witnesses reported seeing the plane flying low and on fire before it crashed into the community. Rescue workers are currently at the scene, and the cause of the crash is under investigation.
The crash is the deadliest in Brazil since 2019, when a Boeing 737 MAX operated by Ethiopian Airlines crashed shortly after takeoff from Addis Ababa, killing 157 people.
